GIMP: Design black and white photo partially in color
In Gimp you can color black and white photos. How to highlight certain objects from the image.
Gimp: Create black and white photos with colored elements
The easiest way to take a photo with this effect is through the image layers:
- First open the colored image in Gimp in the menu bar on "Layer"> "Duplicate Layer".
- Now select the "Desaturate" option under "Colors" and confirm the pop-up window with "Ok".
- Then right-click on the black and white layer and select the "Add layer mask" option.
- Decide here for the option "White (full opacity)" and confirm with "Ok".
- In the Layers window, click the small white rectangle next to the copied layer (see screenshot).
- Now select "Black" as the primary color and activate the brush.
- Use this to paint over those parts that should appear in color at the end. Tip: Use the [+] button to zoom in on the image to edit the edges of the object precisely.
