Mixing a gin and tonic is not difficult - if you learn how to do it correctly. Here you can read how professionals prepare the popular drink so that you can easily imitate it at home.
The perfect gin and tonic - you have to keep that in mind when mixing
When choosing the ingredients, you already have to think about what kind of gin and tonic you would like to mix. In addition to a good gin of your choice, the tonic water is actually a major factor. There are three different flavors:
- Citrus: The best known is the citrus-heavy tonic water, which tastes of a hint of lemon. In addition to ice cream and gin, lemon peel and mint or a lemon wedge are suitable ingredients in the gin and tonic.
- Floral: A floral note in tonic water is noticeable through light, rather sweet aromas. Depending on your taste and gin, you can use rose petals, elderberries or fruits to refine your drink.
- Spicy: Finally there is tonic water, which has a very strong and spicy note. For example, add red peppercorns and rosemary to your spicy gin and tonic.
How to prepare your perfect gin and tonic
You have to decide according to your own taste whether you prefer to mix a lemon, floral or spicy gin and tonic. However, there are a few tips you should keep in mind for each of them:
- Always put the gin in the glass first. For example, if you poured the gin over the ice, it would water down too quickly.
- After the gin comes the ice cream. Fill the glass with large ice cubes that will not melt as quickly.
- Then flavor the glass. For example, rub the herbs you want to use along the edge of the glass or dip them in freshly squeezed lemon juice.
- Then add the extra ingredients, such as lemon, rosemary or flowers, to the glass.
- Stir the ingredients briefly.
- Then serve the drink immediately and then pour tonic water onto it.
