Connect guitar to iPhone - how it works
In this practical tip, we will show you how to connect your guitar to an iPhone. Then you can record songs without having a computer with you.
Hardware required: Connect the guitar to the iPhone
Some accessories are required to connect a guitar to an iPhone. So you first have to get a guitar interface that you switch between guitar and iPhone. The well-known iRig is a relatively cheap variant.
- With the iRig interface you can connect your guitar via 6.3mm jack. There is also a headphone output.
- In the iPhone it is plugged into the microphone and headphone jack. iRig is available for around 30 euros.
- IRig has its own apps, including AmpliTube. However, this app costs 17.99 euros. Usually, however, the recording also works with other recording apps, such as the integrated recording function of the iPhone.
- Alternatively, you can buy the Tascam interface for around 50 euros. It is a combination for recording a microphone or guitar. It combines a 6.3mm jack input with XLR.

If you have an interface to connect your guitar to the iPhone, you can start now. The interface is easy to connect with plug-and-play.
- Connect the guitar interface to the jack socket of your iPhone.
- Then connect your guitar to the interface with a 6.3mm jack or an XLR connector.
- Start a sound recording app. You can also use the integrated sound recording from the iPhone.
