Guitar for children: you have to pay attention to this when buying
If your child would like to learn to play the guitar, there are special musical instruments for the next generation. We have put together a few tips for you on what to look for when buying such children's guitars.
Children's guitar - the right size
A normal guitar is too big for children.
- Children's guitars come in different sizes. Therefore, not only pay attention to the recommended age of the guitar, but based on the height of your child.
- There are guitars for very young children. The smallest variant is the 1/8 guitar. It is intended for children between the ages of three and five who are a maximum of 1.10 meters tall.
- If your child is between four and seven years old, a 1/4 guitar is the right one. These guitars are suitable for body sizes between 1.10 meters and 1.30 meters.
- 1/2 guitars are suitable for children between the ages of six and nine. The child should be between 1.20 and 1.40 meters tall.
- For the age group between eight and eleven years there are so-called 3/4 guitars. Depending on your height, the range is from 1.30 meters to 1.50 meters.
- Children between the ages of eleven and thirteen and a height between 1.40 and 1.60 meters play best with a 7/8 guitar.
- From the age of 13 and a height of 1.50 meters, the youngsters can also practice with a 4/4 guitar, i.e. a guitar for adults.
Do not choose the most expensive option at the beginning
Children's guitars come in different price categories.
- If your child is just beginning to learn the musical instrument, you should choose a cheap model.
- You don't know how long your child can enjoy making music and playing the instrument. If it loses interest after a short time, there is no expensive guitar unused in the corner.
- In addition, children do not always handle the instrument carefully. Dents and scratches are not uncommon. With a cheap model, this is less bad than having to pay for the repair of an expensive guitar.
- Also keep in mind that your child will grow and will sooner or later need a new, larger guitar. Better invest a little more money in a guitar that your child can play with longer when it's a little bigger.
