Github: Pull Request - that's how it's done
With a pull request, developers and programmers on github can incorporate a change into a project. We'll explain how to do it.
Pull request on github
First you should set up a github account. If desired, you can install a git client on your system or edit the repository in question on github:
- Select the relevant project / repository on github.com: You can either find the project via Google or via the local search function within github.
- Then go to the "Pull Requests" tab in the project folder.
- You will now see a list of the currently open pull requests. You should check the list briefly to see whether the change you are planning is already contained in one of the other requests.
- Then click on the "New Pull Request" field, then on "Edit" so that you can edit your change. Finally, click on "Create Pull Request".
- Then enter a description of your change and click "Create Pull Request".
- The main developers of the project will now decide whether to accept your proposed change or not. Depending on the project, this process can take some time.
- If your change proposal results in a pull (fetch + merge), then your change has been accepted and incorporated into the code base of the project.
In our next article we will explain the markdown formatting within github.
