Glass fiber wallpaper: these are the disadvantages
Melted glass fibers form the basis for glass fiber wallpapers. You can find out what disadvantages the wallpapers have and what else you should know about them in our home article.
The disadvantages of glass fiber wallpaper - info
- Glass fiber wallpapers are more expensive than other wallpapers. For the type of wallpaper you have to expect a cost of at least 30 euros for a 25 meter long roll. However, it is the simplest variant - it has no color or pattern. For decorated wallpaper you have to plan at least 100 euros for the same roll length.
- Another major disadvantage are the glass fibers themselves. The fibers are not so stable that they remain undamaged over the entire processing process. Most of the time, the smallest fibers come out of the wallpaper. The fibers then settle on your hands or float in the air. As soon as you breathe, they settle in your lungs.
- Tip: Wear gloves and a face mask when working with glass fiber wallpaper. You should also wear long clothes and wash them after work. Protective glasses are also important to prevent the smallest fibers from getting directly into your eyes.
- You should pay particular attention to your own protection, especially with older wallpapers that have been attached to the walls for several years or decades. As soon as you remove the wallpaper, the fibers loosen. Only dispose of the wallpaper in closed bags.
- Disposal is another disadvantage. Glass fiber wallpapers belong to the mineral fiber waste and have to be disposed of separately, they must not be part of normal household waste or construction waste. You have to dispose of the wallpaper residues as well as glass wool, rock wool or other insulation materials as special waste.
