Google has given Gmail a fresh new face and provided the emails with exciting features such as the expiring function. You can already try out the new Gmail, but Google has not yet activated every new function everywhere.
The new Gmail - Expiring Mails
If you want to test the revised Gmail, you can do it safely. If you don't like the new interface, just switch back to the old mode.
- The expiring function built in by Google is somewhat reminiscent of old agent thrillers, in which self-dissolving messages often played a role. Now you also have the option to play a little secret agent.
- You can use the expiring function to determine how long the mail can be read by the recipient. You have the choice between one day and two years.
- If the recipient did not access the mail within the time frame you defined in advance, it will be irrevocably deleted.
Gmail: How to activate the expiring function
To try out the new feature, first switch to the revised Gmail area.
- Under Settings, select the first menu item "Test the new Gmail". Google switches to the new Gmail within a few seconds. If you want to see your old surface again later, go back to Settings.
- After you have opened a new mail, you will see the icon for Confidential Mode in the lower menu bar. The icon with which you start the destruction mode of the mail is on the far right. It shows a small lock with a clock in front of it.
- If you click on the symbol, the menu for Confidential Mode opens, in which you can activate the destruction mode.
- The expiring feature is not the only interesting feature in Gmail's new Confidential Mode. You also have the option of installing a second security level, in which the recipient has to authenticate himself before he can access the mail. In addition, the mails cannot be forwarded or printed.
In the following article we will introduce the Confidential Mode to you in more detail.
