Gmail: Set up incoming and outgoing servers
If you want to access Gmail with a mail program such as Outlook, you need the inbox server and the outbox server. We'll show you the right data.
Gmail incoming and outgoing servers
With Gmail you can receive your mail either via IMAP or POP3. Which standard you choose depends on your personal needs. Here is a comparison between IMAP and POP3.
- If you receive your mail via POP3, use the address "pop.googlemail.com" (port 995) as the incoming server. "Smtp.googlemail.com" (port 465 or 587) is used as the outgoing mail server.
- To receive via IMAP, use the address "imap.gmail.com" (port 993). The outgoing mail server also changes to "smtp.gmail.com" (port 465 or 587).
- Note: For the inbox, select the standard SSL as encryption. SSL (port 465) as well as TLS and STARTTLS (port 587) are available for outgoing mail.
