Gmail: Send smartphone photos of auto backup to PC
If you have activated the »Auto Backup« function, you can now send photos with Gmail even more easily from your smartphone - even to your own PC. Here's how to do it - even on an iPhone.
Send photos from your Android smartphone with Gmail
Since an update in April 2014, Gmail has a new button that you can use to insert photos. You will find it when you write a new email and hold your mouse cursor on the small plus sign. This option has made it easier to send photos directly from your smartphone. The only requirement for this is that you have to have Google's auto backup function activated. On Android it works like this:
- Open the "Photo" app and click on "Settings".
- Now select the "Auto Backup" option and activate it.
- This will secure your photos on Google servers and make them more easily available.
- In the web version of Gmail, you can now easily access your auto backup photos by clicking the photo icon in Gmail.
Send photos from your iPhone with Gmail
- First, install the Google+ app on your iPhone - if you don't already have it.
- Then log in there with your Google account.
- Now open the "Settings" in the Google+ app.
- Now select the option »Camera and Photos«> »Auto Backup« and activate it.
- You also need to explicitly allow the app to access your photos on iOS.
- To do this, open the "Settings" of your iPhone and navigate to "Privacy"> "Photos", where you can allow access - done!
