GMX app does not synchronize - what to do?
If you have installed an update for the GMX app, the app may no longer synchronize your mails. This practical tip shows you how to fix the problem.
1. Cause: Email synchronization is deactivated in the app
It can happen that after an update of the GMX app the email synchronization is set to "never". To see if this is the case for you:
- Open GMX Mail.
- If you have multiple accounts activated, tap the account affected by the synchronization problem.
- Tap the softkey that you normally use to open the settings or the options window. For Galaxy smartphones, this is the left softkey button.
- In the Settings window, tap "Account Settings".
- Tap "Frequency of the email query".
- The entry "Never (only manually)" must not be activated here (see picture). Select the interval you want. Alternatively, you can activate "Email push" in the previous window in order to be notified immediately of a new email.
2. Cause: The GMX account was deactivated
Probably the most common reason that the GMX app is no longer synchronized, that after an update the GMX account was deactivated in the smartphone accounts. How to reactivate:
- Tap "Menu" on the homescreen to access the app menu.
- Go to the "Settings".
- Touch the "Accounts" tab at the top.
- See if you can find "GMX" in the list. If not, tap "Add Account" below.
- Select "GMX" from the list. Enter your GMX login information in the next window.
- Your GMX account will be reactivated. You can recognize this by the green dot behind "GMX" (see picture).
Flat-rate solutions for synchronization problems:
If the first two solutions did not help you, you have the following alternatives:
- Restart: restart your smartphone at regular intervals. This prevents the processor and memory from having too much information in the cache.
- Uninstall and install the GMX app: reinstalling can often work wonders. This may remove incorrect settings in the app. You should also restart your smartphone after reinstallation. You can find out how to uninstall the GMX app here.
- Deactivate GMX account: Deactivate your GMX account manually as described in the second paragraph. Instead of "Add Account", tap "GMX" and choose "Remove Account." out.
For this practical tip, a Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 4.3 and "GMX Mail" in version 1.58.4 were used. This practical tip tells you what you can do when your emails disappear from your inbox in the GMX app.
