Google Assistant: what is it?
- The idea behind the Google Assistant is a speech recognition system that is based on artificial intelligence.
- "Google Assistant" is to replace the well-known "Google Now" on Android smartphones.
- In contrast to Google Now, the new software can also open up inquiries in context and does not have to be asked for new information.
Activate Google Assistant: The requirements
In order for the installation and activation of the "Google Assistant" to work on your smartphone, your smartphone must meet a few conditions.
- At least Android 6.0 must be installed on your smartphone. In lower versions you can only use the "Google Assistant" with a custom rom such as LineageOS. All phones from Android 7.1.1 have the wizard pre-installed.
- The main memory must be at least 1.5 GB main memory.
- The resolution of the display must be at least 1280 x 720 pixels.

Activate Google Assistant on your smartphone
- The wizard is activated by holding down the home button.
- Here you will be asked if you want to receive push and email notifications.
- You will then be asked a few queries that the Google Assistant can understand. This includes, for example, the alarm clock settings or the current cinema program.
- If the assistant does not activate, you must first change the language under Android and set it to English.
- You also have to clear the cache of the "Google Play Service" and "Google" apps.
- Then restart the smartphone. You can then switch the language back to German.
- To set up voice recognition further, go to Settings again and select the "Google" entry. With "Search"> "Voice"> "Ok Google recognition" you can choose how your smartphone should react to the voice recognition - for example from the lockscreen or only when unlocked.
Activate Google Assistant: The handling
Now that you have successfully installed the AI, there are a few things you should consider when using "Google Assistant".
- The Assistant takes some time to adapt to you, your language and your usage behavior. Only then will answering context-based questions work smoothly.
- To find out which functions the "Google Assistant" supports on your smartphone, simply ask him: "What can you do for me?"
- Google will now give you a number of functions that the assistant can perform for you.
