Connect Chromecast to Google Assistant - Here's how
When you start up the Chromecast, the television will tell you right away that you can set the gadget both with the Google Home app (Android, iOS) and in the browser at chromecast.com/setup.
- Make sure that your smartphone / PC and the TV with Chromecast are logged in to the same WiFi network.
- Open the Google Home app and log in with the desired Google account.
- The app asks you for permission to access your location - this is necessary to be able to search for nearby devices (like Chromecast).
- Devices in the area are automatically searched for. Then you only have to confirm with "YES" whether you want to connect to the device and set it up. To make sure you didn't accidentally connect to your neighbor's Chromecast, the app shows a code on the screen and on the TV. If it matches, you have connected to the correct device.
- In the end, you can voluntarily decide whether you want to share device statistics and crash reports with Google. Then your Chromecast will be logged into your WiFi.
- Once Chromecast is connected to your home network, it’s automatically available to anyone who’s trying to access it from the network without additional settings. It also no longer needs a Google Home app to stream apps like Netflix to the TV.
With the Google Assistant on your smartphone or even a Google Home, you can even control Chromecast with just your voice - in the next article you will learn the most important voice commands for Netflix.
