Show Google Books hidden pages - does it work?
Unfortunately, Google Books did not display the full book. We were looking for tricks to catch hidden pages.
Google Books Hidden Pages - Why?
There are two different types of books on Google Books: you can scroll through them completely, but only small excerpts from other books:
- You can usually only view the complete books because the author has made his book available free of charge or because he has died over 70 years ago - then his rights to his own work no longer exist.
- The other books only serve as a book preview for Google's own bookshop Play Books. You can purchase the full title there - but the mostly generous reading samples are often sufficient to inform yourself about the core themes of the work.
Show hidden pages: the browser trick
You will never see the complete book in Google Books - after all, the publisher wants to make money with it. During our testing, however, we were able to determine different previews for different browsers: When using the Firefox browser, a preview showed about ten pages more than in the Chrome browser. However, this is different for each book - there is no guarantee of a larger book preview.
- Do you suspect important information immediately after the preview ends? Here it is worth checking whether the corresponding pages are displayed in other browsers.
- If this search does not produce any results, you can of course still buy the corresponding books using the button opposite - either directly from Google Play Books or as a printed copy from Amazon & Co.
Google Books: Bypass GeoIP Lock
Another option is to call "Google Books" via a proxy server:
- This hides your IP address and instead, for example, simulates an American address. Sometimes you can see other pages on Google Books.
- We will show you exactly how to do this on the next page.
