Google Chrome as a Windows 8 app
In Windows 8, Google Chrome works in two modes in parallel: for the app interface and desktop view. This practical tip explains how to start Chrome as an app.
Google Chrome app: switch between modes
- To switch to the app view, click on the menu icon on the far right and select the command »Restart Chrome in Windows 8 mode«. This requires setup as a standard browser.
- Similarly, use the "Restart Chrome on Desktop" command to switch back to normal view. Chrome remembers the last used mode and starts again, regardless of where you next call the browser.
Special features in Google Chrome app mode
Some plug-ins do not work due to the system, but you can only add additional tiles to the start menu in this mode in order to open certain websites directly.
- To do this, go to the website, then click on the menu icon and select the command »Bookmarks | Pin this side to the home screen «. Confirm the action again with "Pin to start".
