Google Chrome: No access to the network - this may be the reason
If Google Chrome shows the error message "No access to the network", this may be due to your internet access or the PC itself. We'll show you how to check all possible causes and fix the problem.
Step 1: Chrome error "No access to the network" - check the Internet
In most cases, the "Network is out of reach" error appears when you really have no access to the Internet. Therefore, check your connection:
- Make sure that you are connected to the correct WiFi network or that the LAN cable is inserted correctly.
- Then test your internet with another browser like Firefox or Microsoft Edge. If the connection does not work here, there is an error in your network.
- We will show you what you can do in this case in another practical tip.
Step 2: fix Chrome errors - check virus scanner and firewall
Your virus protection may also have blocked Google Chrome. Therefore, deactivate it briefly and try again to establish a connection. If that doesn't work, take a look at the Windows Firewall settings:
- Open the Control Panel and click on "Windows Firewall" in the "System and Security" category.
- In the left column in Windows 10, select the option "Allow an app or feature through Windows Firewall". For older versions of Windows, click "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall".
- A new window is opening up. Check "Google Chrome" and confirm the changes with "OK".
- Finally restart the browser and test your connection.
Step 3: repair network access via proxy settings
If all of this did not work, incorrect proxy settings are probably to blame for the error:
- Start Google Chrome and click on the menu button with the three horizontal bars at the top right.
- In the dropdown menu, choose the "Settings" entry.
- A new tab opens. Click on "Show advanced settings" and in the "Network" section on the "Change proxy settings" button.
- If you use a proxy, enter the correct connection data here. Otherwise, delete all existing elements.
- Confirm your choice with "OK" and then restart Chrome.
- Tip: Instead of manually changing the proxy settings, you can reset Google Chrome to the default settings:
