Google Chrome crashes - it could be because of that
If your Google Chrome crashes frequently, this can have various causes. We will show you what it is and what you can do about it.
Conflicts between Chrome and other software
First, check if your browser conflicts with another program.
- Enter the following URL into the Chrome address bar: chrome: // conflicts. Here Chrome lists all of its main processes.
- If there is a conflict, the affected software is highlighted. In most cases, this is malware that you can remove with an antivirus.
Defective user profile crashes Google Chrome
Another reason for browser crashes can be your broken Chrome user profile.
- Before you create a new user profile, you should save your old one. To do this, navigate to the location of your user data by entering the following path in the address bar in Windows Explorer:% LOCALAPPDATA% / Google / Chrome / User Data /.
- Rename the "Default" folder to "Backup" or "Backup" and start Google Chrome. The browser automatically creates a new "default" user profile.
- If the problem is now resolved, you still have to import your data. To do this, copy the "Bootmarks.bak" file from the "Backup" or "Backup" folder to the new "Default" folder. Then rename the file "Bookmarks".
- Note: your bookmarks may have been the reason for the crash!
Reinstall Google Chrome
If the first two options did not help you, you can also reinstall the browser.
- Download the latest version of Google Chrome.
- Uninstall the browser using the control panel.
- Change back to the directory "% LOCALAPPDATA% / Google / Chrome / User Data /" and delete the folder "Default".
- Install Google Chome using the previously downloaded installation file.
Disable broken Chrome plugins
Furthermore, the crashes can also be due to faulty plugins. Try to deactivate it. The problem is often due to the Adobe Flash Player.
- Enter the following command in the address bar: chrome: plugins.
- Then search for "Adobe Flash Player".
- Click on "Deactivate" to switch off the plugin.
- Finally restart your browser.
Anti-virus software crashes
Google Chrome is also often blocked by the firewall or the antivirus. You can do that.
- Try deactivating Windows Firewall and your antivirus. In your firewall settings, select the option "Disable Windows Firewall (not recommended)".
- Note that your Windows firewall and your antivirus no longer protect your computer! So don't forget to reactivate the firewall!
This practical tip was tested under Microsoft Windows 7. The problem can be solved almost identically on other Microsoft operating systems. In another article we will show you how to switch off espionage in Google Chrome.
