Google Chromebook: pros and cons
Google’s Chromebook is becoming increasingly popular. In this article you will learn what advantages the device brings and what you should consider when buying.
Chromebook: The Google notebook can do that
After Google has received a lot of positive feedback with its Nexus cell phones, the mega-corporation now wants to establish itself on the laptop market. With the Chromebook family, Google offers laptops from 249 euros.
Google Chromebook: the advantages
- Chromebooks are incredibly cheap: You can get a laptop with an HD webcam and a fast processor for just 249 euros.
- While you can still go shopping quickly when starting many laptops, Google's Chromebook is ready to go in just 7 seconds.
- Practical: Chromebooks automatically update the operating system (Chrome OS) in the background. The famous update screens like when Windows starts are not available here - the laptop updates completely unnoticed.
- When you buy, you automatically get 100 GB of storage space for Google Drive - for two years.
- Viruses goodbye! A very important advantage is the fact that Google's Chrome OS is so new that it does not (yet) have viruses, Trojans, etc. that could make your life difficult.
Google Chromebook: the disadvantages
- One thing that you as a buyer should be aware of is that there are almost no programs and applications for Google Chrome OS. Neither iTunes nor Microsoft Word work on the laptop. There are numerous web apps for this, but they cannot replace every typical Windows application.
- Chromebooks come with only 8 to 16 GB of storage. This is very little for a Latop - especially for users who do not want to store their data online in the 100 GB cloud.
- Nothing else is to be expected in terms of price - but it is worth noting that all Chromebooks are only equipped with a mediocre HD display. As a Chromebook user, you shouldn't expect cinematic entertainment.
Chromebook conclusion: it depends on the user!
If you realize that you spend 90 percent of your time online on a PC, a Chromebook will be the best device for you. However, if you often use offline applications and programs on your computer, you should not choose a Chromebook.
- Alternative: Notebooks with Windows 8 are also available at the same price - the EasyNote from Packard Bell, for example, is cheap, has 500 GB of memory and comes with an HD display and a decent set of features.
