To properly format a text in Google Docs, hyphenation is necessary. However, this does not work as easily as in Word or OpenOffice. Here we show you exactly how to do this.
Google Docs: Activate hyphenation - Here's how
Google Docs does not currently have hyphenation. As a result, there are often large gaps between words in justification. You can separate them manually, but if you change the text again, you must also remove the hyphens or place them elsewhere. Here's how it works:
- First, write all your text in Google Docs as you normally would, and ignore the bad formatting due to the lack of hyphenation.
- At the end click on "File" and "Download as".
- Now select either "Microsoft Word" or "OpenDocument Format". Depending on whether you have Word or OpenOffice installed on your computer.
- Then open the downloaded file on your computer.
- Here you can now activate the hyphenation via "Layout". Note that the hyphenation changes the formatting slightly. Check this before you print the document or save it as a PDF.
