Google Drive: change owners - how it works
For folders and files in Google Drive, you can change the owner and assign the document to another user. We'll tell you exactly how to do it.
Google Drive: Change ownership property of files
By default, you own all of the files and folders that you upload or create in Google Drive. This means that the data will only appear in your Google account. If you want to give the data to other users, you can either share the files or change the owner property. The latter transfers the data completely to another Google account.
- To do this, open the Google Drive homepage and log in with your account details.
- Right-click the file or folder whose owner property you want to change.
- In the context menu, select the "Share" option and click on "Advanced".
- Then click the down arrow next to the name of the new owner. If you cannot find the person you want in the list, enter their email address in the "Invite people" section. This way you can share the file with this person and it will appear in the list.
- Finally, click on the "Owner" entry and on "Save changes".
- Note: This transfers the owner property. However, you can continue to edit the file until the new owner withdraws your access authorization.
