Use Google Drive with FTP - Here's how
Usually you access Google Drive via app or browser, but with a little effort the cloud storage can also be used via FTP. You can read how this works in this practical tip.
Install Google Drive FTP adapter
Unfortunately, there is no direct way to access Google Drive via FTP. Therefore, the installation of the free Google drive ftp adapter is required. This requires a current Java version on your PC.
- Download the Google drive ftp adapter.
- Unzip the downloaded archive on your hard drive and start the file start.cmd in the program directory.
- A command line window now opens, in which all processes of the software are displayed. After a few moments, a new page will open in your browser, where you must log in with your Google user name and password and then allow the adapter to access Google Drive.
- Enter "ftp: // user: : 1821 /" in the address line of your browser. You should now see all files and directories in your Google Drive account.
- Under no circumstances should you close the command line window since the software only works as long as it is open.
Use Google Drive with FTP
You can now easily access Google Drive with any FTP program such as FileZilla to upload and download files, rename them or create new directories. By default, use this credential:
- Server: localhost
- Username: user
- Password: user
- Port: 1821
We will tell you in the next practical tip whether you can also set up Google Drive as a WebDAV drive.
