Google Drive: How to change the location
After you have installed Google Drive on your PC, the location of your files can no longer be changed directly. With a few additional steps, this is still possible:
Sign out of your Google account
As long as you are logged into the software with your Google account, you cannot change the location of the synchronized files. Therefore, you must first log out:
- Right-click the Google Drive program icon in the notification area of the taskbar.
- First click on "Settings" and then on "Disconnect account ...". Confirm the security question with "Yes".
- After a moment you will be notified that your account has been successfully disconnected. Close the message with "OK".
Set a new location
- Right-click the Google Drive program icon in the notification area of the taskbar.
- Click on "Register". Then enter the email address and password of your Google account. Confirm your entry with "Register".
- In the welcome dialog, click "Next" and then "Advanced setup". Then click "Change ..." to set the desired location.
- Select the directory you want to use as the location for Google Drive. Remember that the folder must be empty. Confirm your selection with "Select folder".
- Click Start Sync.
