Google Drive: Enable two-factor authentication
You should think about two-factor authentication if you use Google Drive intensively and store sensitive data in your cloud. With this form of encryption you secure your data better.
An additional level of security for Google Drive
Important: Before you start activating the two-factor authentication, you should consider the telephone number on which you would later like to receive the additional security code. It is advisable to have the corresponding cell phone ready at the same time, because you will need it during setup. You should also think about which replacement phone numbers are suitable.
- After logging in to your Google Account, go to your picture or name in the top right corner and click on "Account".
- Then select the "Security" item in the menu bar.
- Now that you have reached the "Security" page, go to the "Password" area and click on the "Set up" option next to "Confirmation in two steps".
- On the following page you will first get general information about two-factor authentication for the cloud. It starts after you have clicked the blue button "Start setup".
Set up Google's two-factor authentication
- Before you can start with the activation, you have to enter your password again. You will then be automatically guided through the four stages of two-factor authentication.
- First enter the corresponding telephone number and then choose one of the options SMS or voice call. When you have made your decisions known, click on "Send code".
- You will then receive a confirmation code from Google on your mobile phone.
- Enter the confirmation code in the relevant field and complete your entry with "Confirm".
- Finally, check your entries again, enter the replacement telephone number and you will have an additional backup for your sensitive data in the future.
Of course, this level of security is also available for other clouds, such as two-factor authentication for Box.
