Google Earth out of focus - you can do that
With Google Earth you can easily explore the whole world from home. With blurry images, this is no fun. We'll show you what you can do to get the images sharp on Google Earth.
General information
- First, make sure you have the latest version of Google Earth installed. Usually the program keeps itself up to date. You can also download and install the latest setup file at any time from Chip or Google.
- You should also have the latest drivers for your graphics card (Nvidia / AMD) installed.
- If available, turn off your firewall as a test, as this can hinder Internet access from Google Earth. Google Earth requires an active internet connection.
Other causes
Unfortunately, Google Earth does not provide equally good images everywhere. While most metropolises already offer sharp images, this does not always apply to smaller cities or villages.
- One of the reasons for blurry images in Google Earth can be that your internet connection is too slow. In this case, it simply takes a while for the sharp images to be reloaded. You can tell whether Google Earth is still loading by the circle symbol at the bottom right of the program window. If the circle rotates, the images have not yet been fully loaded. If the circle is no longer moving, the best possible image material is already displayed.
- If you have activated too many overlays in Google Earth, display problems can sometimes occur. For this reason, deactivate all checkmarks in "My Places" and "Levels" in the left program window.
- Clear the Google Earth cache. To do this, click on "Tools" in the menu bar and then on "Options ...". Go to the "Cache" tab. You can now clear the memory cache, disk cache, and cache file.
- Changing the graphics settings can also solve many display problems. In the menu bar of Google Earth click on "Tools" and then on "Options ...". In the tab "3D view" you can now switch off the "Anisotropic filtering" and switch from "Graphics mode" DirectX to OpenGL (or vice versa).
You can capture your favorite places and discoveries as a picture in Google Earth at any time. How to save images from Google Earth can be read in the next practical tip.
