Google Fiber - what is it
Google launches the new "Google Fiber". We explain exactly what this is in this practical tip.
Google Fiber: When fiber networks expand
Google presents the new fiber optic internet project "Google Fiber". With its project, the company wants to build a high-speed fiber optic network. The US giant Google is laying fiber-optic connections in customers' homes, hoping to make money without a volume limit.
- Expectations: The fiber optic network is symmetrical, which means that downstream and upstream are equally fast. As a customer, you can expect a downstream and upstream rate of 1Gbit / s without a volume limit. At the same time, Google is forcing the competition to further expand its own networks.
- Cost: Home users pay $ 70 a month for the gigabit line. Additional cable TV costs $ 120 a month. As a customer, you can receive an offer with 5MBit / s bandwidth that lasts seven years. You will have to pay a one-time installation fee of $ 300. No monthly fees are due over the term.
- Location: Google Fiber is becoming increasingly popular in the United States. The state of Kansas already owns the gigabit network. More cities will follow. As a European, you will hardly have anything from the project, as Europe is currently still excluded. Google's conditions are not sufficient for European cities to start the project there as well.
