Google Home: Control TV - how it works
With Google Home you can control numerous devices in the household. You can also switch the television on and off using a voice command. In this practical tip, we will show you exactly how this works and what the prerequisites are.
Instructions: Control TV with Google Home
- The first thing you need is a Chromecast, which is connected to the TV via HDMI. In order for the Chromecast to turn on your TV via Google Home, your TV must support HDMI-CEC. This is the case with many modern devices, but you must first activate the function in the settings beforehand.
- Google Home and Chromecast work together automatically. Just say "Ok, Google, turn off the TV" or Ok, Google, turn on the TV. "The action will then be carried out.
- If you use multiple TVs with one Chromecast, you can give the different TVs a name. With the command "Ok, Google, turn on the TV in the bedroom" the correct device is then controlled.
- If you use the Google Assistant on your Android smartphone, you can also control your TV via your mobile phone. The command remains the same.
