Connect Google Home to Sonos: How to play music
If you want to connect your Google Home to an existing Sonos speaker, there are a few things to consider. We'll show you exactly how this works.
Google Home and Sonos: Problems connecting
- Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to control Sonos speakers directly using a voice command via Google Home. Because Sonos cooperates exclusively with Amazon and its voice assistant Alexa. However, you can use Google Cast to control your Sonos Play: 5 speaker with voice commands. For this you need the Chromecast Audio and a 3.5mm jack cable.
- If you own a Sonos PLAY: 1 or PLAY: 3, you also need a Sonos ZonePlayer because the speakers are not equipped with an audio input.
Instructions: Connect Sonos to Google Home
- Use a standard 3.5mm jack cable to connect the Chromecast Audio audio output to the audio input of your Sonos PLAY: 5 speaker.
- Now you have to select the correct audio input for your speaker in the Sonos app. The jack input is referred to as line-in in the app.
- Then open the Google Home app, click on the speaker icon and then select "Chromecast Audio". Simply nod any queries.
- The connection is successfully established. You can now choose your streaming service.
- You can then control the playback of the music using commands such as "OK Google, play For You from Rita Ora on Spotify" or "OK Google, louder".
On the next page, we'll show you how to download and install the updates for Sonos speakers.
