To keep Google Home up to date, you need to update from time to time. We explain how this works in this practical tip.

- The first update is also carried out with the setup.
- You don't even have to worry about subsequent updates - these are installed automatically.
- However, the updates do not reach all users at the same time. That is why it is worth checking from time to time whether the software is up to date.
Google Home: Check version
You can check the latest version of the software with the Google Home app.
- Open the Google Home app. Tap on "Devices" in the top right corner and select Google Home.
- Tap on the three dots in the upper right area and open the menu.
- Once there, select the "Settings" item. Scroll to the very bottom where you can find the Google Home firmware version.

If Google Home is currently performing the update, it cannot do or accept any other tasks.
- Depending on the WiFi connection, an update takes about ten minutes.
- During the process, you will be shown six white dots that rotate clockwise
- If the update takes much longer than 10 minutes, or if an error message appears - indicated by six standing LEDs in orange color - you may have to reboot. In some cases, only a complete reset will help. We explain how to reset Google Home in a separate article.
- If the Google Home Update fails, it is usually sufficient to simply take it off the power for around ten seconds. The update is then restarted automatically.
- If the update is finished Google Home, restart your device and wait a short time until the network registration has been re-established and all devices are connected again.
