Disable Google Installer: Here's how
The Google Installer or Google Updater ensures that you automatically receive the latest versions of Chrome or Picasa. In addition, he also sends information about your usage behavior to Google. This practical tip shows you how to switch off this spy tool. However, you must note that you will no longer receive automatic updates for your Google programs, but will have to download them manually.
Step 1: Remove Google Installer from the system start
- Press the Windows key and enter "msconfig" in the search bar below and confirm with the Enter key.
- In the following window, go to the "System Start" tab and remove the checkmark next to the "Google Updater" item.
Step 2: Deactivate the Google Installer service
- Then press the Windows key again, search for "Services" and select the appropriate search entry.
- In the list below, search for the entry "Google Updater (gupdater)". Double-click on the entry to open the properties, where you can set the start type to "Deactivated". You have completed step 2 by clicking on "Apply".
Step 3: delete the actual program
- In the last step, please open the following folder: 'C: \ Users \ "YOURUSERNAME" \ AppData \ Local \ Google \ Update'. This contains the file "GoogleUpdate.exe", which you can now delete directly from your PC with "Shift" plus "DEL".
- It may be necessary to show hidden folders for this step. We explain how this works under Windows 7 here.
After each installation of a Google program, the Google updater / installer nests in your system again and you have to repeat this procedure.
