Google account: Secure login via USB stick
You can now also log in to your Google account with a USB security key. With the USB stick, Google wants to take another step towards a secure account.
More security for your Google account with a USB stick
Google's new security process uses the Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) protocol. It is supposed to protect against pishing attacks more effectively, since authentication should only be possible via the respective original pages - in the case of Google. Fake sites would then no longer have a chance to spy on your password.
- To use the new security key service from Google, you need the Chrome browser from version 38.
- The additional security is not available for nothing, you need a Fido U2F stick, which you can get from around 6 euros. However, the more stable sticks are significantly more expensive.
- If you want to log in, first insert the USB security key into a USB interface and then enter your password.
