Gmail login doesn't work - what to do?
This practical tip shows you what you can do if your Gmail login no longer works.
Why doesn't the login in Gmail work?
A login to the email provider cannot work for various reasons:
- The username or password was misspelled. In this case, also check whether the Caps Lock key was activated accidentally.
- The provider's servers are overloaded or temporarily unavailable.
- Your web browser has cache problems.
- Your PC may be overloaded because too many processes are running in the background or because the memory is full.
You can do this if your Gmail login doesn't work
- Check password / user name: First check whether you have entered your user name and password correctly. Also pay attention to the domain at the end of your user name ("@ gmail.com" or "@ googlemail.com"). Tip: It's best to leave out the ending entirely. The login works even without it and you save annoying typing and eliminate a possible source of errors.
- Reset password: If you have forgotten your password, you can have it reset. To do this, click on "Can't access your account?" Below the login button. In the next window, select "Forgot password". Then enter your Gmail address. Confirm with "Next" and follow the next steps. Your password will then be sent to your recovery email address.
- Wait a few minutes / press [F5]: If you are sure that your username and password are correct, it could also be a server problem from Google. Wait a few minutes before trying to log in again. Alternatively, you can press the F5 key to update the website.
- Restarting the computer: If all else fails, restarting the PC could also help. The working memory is emptied and any disturbing background applications are closed.
