Google Maps app: change speech
You can change the voice output for the Google Maps app to another language abroad, so that street names, for example, are pronounced with the correct accent when navigating. In German speech output, English terms sound more than strange.

Unfortunately, Google Maps does not have its own option to switch the speech output manually. Only the direct route via the system setting helps here. Here's how it works:
- Call up the settings on your device and select the "Language and input" area.
- Change the system language at the top to your target language, for example English. Unfortunately, this step shows the entire system with all menu items in the newly selected language. However, there is no step past it.
- Then scroll down to the Text to Speech section.
- Select the settings menu here and also set the desired speech output under "Language".
- After a short moment, the navigation voice from Google Maps sounds in the desired speech.
If you only have one hand free during a city tour, you can also zoom with one hand in the Google Maps app. We will show you in another practical tip how this works.
