Google Maps: Show long-distance bus and Flixbus connections
With Google Maps you can now not only calculate car and pedestrian routes, but also determine long-distance bus and Flixbus connections for your next trip. We'll show you how it works.
Google Maps: Show long-distance bus connections
Long-distance buses such as Flixbus are becoming ever more competitive with trains and the like. Google has also recognized this and has therefore integrated all currently available Flixbus connections into Google Maps. However, the new feature is only visible in a roundabout way.
- First call up Google Maps in the browser or use the free Google Maps app for Android or iOS.
- Then enter your travel destination and click on the arrow icon labeled "Route Planner".
- Then you determine the starting point of your trip and then use the train symbol to switch to connections by public transport.
- To see the long-distance bus data instead of the train connection, click on "Options" in the top right corner.
- In the "Preferred" section, tick "Bus". All available long-distance bus connections will then appear on your selected route.
- To book the respective connection, first click on the corresponding connection and then on the blue link at the bottom.
Tip: Plan your Flixbus trip in advance with Google Maps
If you only want to take the Flixbus in a few days or weeks, you can already plan your trip with Google Maps. To do this, follow the steps above and click on "Travel Planner" under the connections. A new window opens in which you can enter your travel time exactly and then select the best connection for you.
Another practical tip shows how you can save the route you are looking for in Google Maps for later use.
