The latest feature on Google Maps is Live View. This should make it even easier for you to find your way around. From now on, the directional arrows will be shown directly on your camera view. Read everything you need to know about the new function here.
Google Maps Live View: Requirements
To be able to use the new function, you have to meet a few requirements.
- You should only use this function as a pedestrian and not as a driver. Google advises that you do not use Live View all the time, so that you do not look at your smartphone all the time, but keep an eye on your surroundings.
- Your device must be compatible with ARKit or ARCore .
- You can only use Live View in areas where StreetView is already well covered.
- It also only works if you are outdoors and everything is well lit (especially recommended during the day).
- You must allow Google Maps to use your camera .
- With LiveView you get the direction arrows directly in the camera view and have a small map in the lower part of the screen.
How to activate LiveView
Activation is quick and easy to explain:
- First open the Google Maps app on your Android device.
- Select a destination by tapping on the map or entering it in the search bar.
- Activate the route guidance and select "On foot" so that the pedestrian route is displayed.
- The option "Start Live View" is displayed in the bottom center. Now select this.
- Follow the instructions for your location determination. For this, you should point your camera at buildings or signs.
- When your position has been determined, you will now see the direction arrows.
- Vibration will tell you whether you have reached your goal or if you need to follow new instructions.
