Use Google Maps offline on iPhone: how it works
You can not only use Google Maps online on your iPhone, but also offline. You can save a map section in advance in the app so that you can find the right way on the go even without internet. We'll show you how it's done.
Google Maps: Save map sections offline on the iPhone
With a little trick you can save the current map section in Google Maps for later use offline. In the test, the entire inner city of Hamburg could be saved offline. For example, the offline map is suitable for a city trip.
- Open the Google Maps app on your iPhone.
- Enter the desired location in the search line above. To get the largest possible section, zoom out. Don't worry, you can zoom in on the smallest details in the offline version of the map.
- Click the search line again at the top, enter "ok maps" and then click the search button.
- You will now see the Google Maps logo with a loading bar (see picture). The map is usually saved within a few seconds. You will then receive a message that the map area has been successfully cached. If this is not the case, the map section is too large: you have to zoom in a little further.
- Close the app and start it without an internet connection, you can access the map section. Even individual streets are clearly recognizable.
