Google Maps: Clear history - how it works
If you want to blur your traces, you can manually delete the search history in Google Maps. We show you how this works, both via the app and on the PC.
Clear history on Google Maps
- Open the "Google Maps" app and tap the menu button in the top left.
- Go to "Settings" and select "Google Maps History".
- Here you can now manually delete any desired entry.
- Tip: The recorded location data can also be deleted in the "Location history" category.
Google Maps: Clear history on PC
There is no correct search history for the PC version of Google Maps. If you use a Google account, it can happen that your search history is saved. To delete it, you have to do it differently than with the app.
- Open the Google Maps website and click on the menu button at the top left.
- Select the history at the bottom and then select the "Delete activities by" option on the left.
- Decide on the desired period and select Google Maps from the list.
- The search history is removed from Google Maps via the "Delete" button.
- Note: If you can't follow the instructions as described, Google won't save your search history at all. To blur your traces anyway, you can clear the cache in the browser.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to use Google Maps offline.
