Google Nexus 5: How to use the integrated pedometer
The Nexus 5 smartphone from Google has an integrated step counter with step detection. A built-in sensor also detects how fast you are moving: for example, whether you are driving a car, cycling or running. Here's how to use the pedometer on your Nexus 5.
Use the integrated pedometer on your Nexus 5
Requirements:
- In order to use the integrated pedometer of the Google Nexus 5, you also need an app. For example, you can use the "Runtastic Pedometer" app or "Moves" to read out the pedometer data.
How to count steps with Google's Nexus 5 and Moves:
- If you have installed the "Moves" application, open the app.
- Wait about 30 seconds after the startup process so that the app can locate your current location via GPS. You should make sure that you have confirmed unrestricted GPS access in the settings.
- The clear user interface of the application shows you a so-called "Places" icon after locating your location. If you touch the icon, you can see your current location on a map.
- You can also describe this position in more detail manually, for example as "Workplace", or you can simply select a predefined position.
How the app works on your Nexus 5:
- As soon as you move with the activated app, your data is optionally recorded in number of steps, according to time or in the kilometers traveled. This data is evaluated and visible in the form of a time scale with a movement pattern.
- After installation, the app registers every movement in the background. "Moves" assigns every step, such as jogging, driving or cycling, to the respective steps, kilometers or time. You have to carry your smartphone with you.
- When you have completed a distance, an "empty" icon appears with your current position.
- The fitness tracker does not count when driving a car. This movement period is classified by "Moves" with "Transport".
