Google Project Ara: Smartphones for DIY
- Project Ara is a project by Google. It is the idea of a modular smartphone, i.e. a device whose components can be removed and added yourself.
- As with a PC, the user can replace defective components or upgrade them as required. Google's goal is a customizable, customizable smartphone.
- With this project, Google wants to make smartphones cheaper in the long term. Google also wants to reduce the electronic waste caused by smartphones with this idea.
- In the future, the individual modules should not only work in smartphones, but also in the car or in televisions.
- At the moment, three so-called "endoskeleton sizes" are planned. These are the basic devices that are to appear in three different sizes.
- It is not yet certain when the first macaw smartphones will appear. At the moment, only a pilot trial is planned for 2015.
