Clear Google history: how it works in the browser and on the mobile phone
Google stores all your search queries in the Google history. In a few steps, we explain how you can view and delete this history in this practical tip.
Clear Google history in the browser - how it works
Google will automatically save your search history to improve your search results and have searches available on all devices. If you want to clear your history, do the following:
- First, go to your web activity from Google. Here you will find all the information that Google stores about your activities.
- Then click on the three dots at the top right to open the menu. Select the "Delete activities by" option.
- Set the desired period you want to delete in the lower half under the heading "Delete by date". If you want to delete all search entries, you can simply select "Total so far".
- Then confirm it by clicking on "Delete". Your Google history is now deleted.
Clear Google history on your smartphone - how it works
Alternatively, you can easily delete the Google history on your smartphone. To do this, follow these steps:
- First open the Google app on your smartphone.
- Then click on the menu button (three lines on top of each other) in the top left corner and select "Settings".
- Now go to your personal Google history via "Accounts & data protection"> "Google activity settings"> "Web & app activities"> "Manage history".
- Tap on the three dots in the top right corner and select "Delete activities after".
- By default, "Today" is set here. Tap on it and select "Total so far". Alternatively, you can also set the time period you want to delete. Now simply confirm the entry with a tap on "Delete".
So that you have to delete your Google history less frequently in the future, you can also have certain websites automatically called up in incognito mode. This will prevent Google from including these pages in the history. You can find out how in our next practical tip.
