Google Wifi: What you need to set up

- You will also need an Ethernet cable to connect Google Wifi to the modem.
- A Google account and the Google Wifi app are also required for setup. They are available for both Android and iOS.
- Last but not least you need at least one Google Wifi unit. If you integrate several cylinders, the additional cylinders each require a power supply.
Set up Google Wifi - so it'll work
- First, find a good place for the Google Wifi. Ideally, place it as free-standing as possible, on a bookcase or on the TV table. However, it must be set up near the modem, since you have to connect it to it.
- Once you have found a suitable place, connect the Google Wifi to your modem via an Ethernet cable. First plug the cable into the WiFi point, then the other end into the socket on the modem.
- Now connect the wifi point to the socket, the light ring lights up blue and the Google Wifi is ready for setup.
- You should already have downloaded the app for your smartphone. If you open the app, you must first agree to some agreements such as Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Privacy Settings and then log in with your Google Account.
- Now follow the instructions of the app to connect the WiFi point to the Internet. Your wifi point should first be found by the app and connected to your smartphone: You will be asked to point your smartphone's camera at the QR code on the underside of the wifi point.
- In the next step, enter the location of your wifi point. Select the location from the list of suggestions and confirm the entry by tapping "Next".
- In the following window you define a name for the WiFi network. Again, confirm with "Next". Then determine a password for the network and complete the process with "Create".
- If you have several wifi points, they must also be connected. All you have to do is hold your smartphone near the additional point and tap "Add Wifi point". Of course, the wifi point must be connected to the mains. If you added a wifi point, tap "Test Now". This will test the strength of the WiFi connection. If the result is not so good, choose a better place for the point.
- Once you have completed the setup and added all wifi points, an overview of your Google wifi network will appear.
- Finally, the app downloads the Google Wifi software and installs it on your smartphone. This can take up to 10 minutes, so you will need to be patient. Finally, all wifi points are restarted. The network is not available during this time. As soon as all light rings glow blue-green, the network is fully set up.
