Google Wifi: What is Mesh WiFi? Easily explained
Google Wifi is now available on the German market. The Google router easily brings mesh WiFi into every home. We explain what the small tin from Google can do and what the term mesh WiFi is all about.
Mesh WiFi with Google Wifi - WiFi network throughout the house
Ordinary routers are not nice, they require complicated setup and they have a short range. With Google Wifi that should change now. Google relies on an attractive design, simple operation and a long range thanks to mesh WiFi.
- Google Wifi is a white cylinder about ten centimeters in diameter and seven centimeters high. The device looks chic and can therefore be placed open in the apartment or house.
- The router can be set up in a few minutes using the Google Wifi app for Android or iOS.
- With the devices, Google promises a particularly high range and comprehensive coverage thanks to the mesh technology.
- Several of the Google Wifis can be connected to each other via a mesh system (meshed network), for example as in a modular system.
- A wifi network is created throughout the house. The network assistant continuously checks the connection between all Google Wifi access points and thus ensures the optimal signal transmission between devices.
- To use it, the first Google Wifi unit must be connected to the existing router. Additional units can then be distributed around the house, creating a mesh network.
- According to Google, a single device is enough for an area of almost 130 square meters. Depending on the number of floors and rooms, additional devices are also required.
- Google's WLAN solution will be available in a few days from the Google Store, Media Markt, Saturn and Cyberport, among others. However, the price for the white cans is quite high. A device costs 139 euros, in a double pack 249 euros are due.
What exactly is mesh WiFi?
Mesh WiFi is mainly used to ensure a comprehensive and reliable signal strength.
- There are also mesh WiFi routers from other providers - but new and well-known is Google Wifi.
- To extend the range of the network, repeaters are usually used. However, these do not increase the signal strength.
- With mesh WiFi, several routers are connected to each other. These not only offer a comprehensive coverage, but also good signal quality.
- The routers form a network and all generate a WiFi signal themselves. This means that they are not just reinforcing something that already exists.
- Since this is only one and the same network, all routers can also be found under the same network name.
