If you want to best protect your Google account from unauthorized access, you can activate two-factor authentication. We'll show you how to do it step by step.
Instructions: Activate two-factor authentication for Google login
According to Google, less than 10 percent of users use secure two-factor authentication. With this function, you not only need your password for each Google login, but also a code that is displayed on your smartphone. If a thief obtains your password, he cannot access your Google account without a code.
- Open the following Google website and log into your account.
- Under "Register with Google" activate the entry "Confirmation in two steps".
- With the button "Start now" you will be guided through the setup of the two-factor authentication.
- Select the desired smartphone and confirm the access there.
- Finally, you have to provide your mobile phone number in order to receive the code via SMS if the worst comes to the worst.
- Download the Google Authentificator on your smartphone and log in there with your Google account.
- From now on, if you log in somewhere with your Google account, you will not only need your password, but also the code from the Google Authentificator app.
