If you set up your own domain with Gmail, you have the advantage that your email address is free of advertising. You can also decide which name the address should have after the @ sign.
Request for your own Gmail domain
In order to set up your own domain at Googlemail, you have to access your DNS settings. If you do not have access to your "Domain Name System" or do not know how to access it, please contact your provider or the support of your website operator. This should take over the changes for you.
Set up your own domain for GMail - how it works
Follow the steps below to set up your own domain.
- First register with Google Apps and enter the required information such as your name, your email address and the desired and the relevant domain.
- You will receive a confirmation by email and now have access to the administrator interface. Here you can activate and edit services, such as calendars, readers and texts, as you wish. But you go to the menu item "E-Mail".
- Under "Dashboard" you can see the necessary data for the DNS settings (so-called "MX records"). You enter this in the backend of your provider to set up your own googlemail domain.
- Once you have done this, click the "I have followed these steps" button on the dashboard. The settings are applied to the provider or its DNS server within 48 hours. Once this is done, you can use your Gmail with your own domain.
- In addition, under the menu item "Service settings", "E-mail" and "Web address" you can change the URL under which you access your e-mail using a browser. This has the advantage that you do not have to constantly enter the URL "//mail.google.com.a.your-domain.de".
If you have any difficulties, please contact Googlemail support. You can find out how to do this in this practical tip.
