Play Gothic 2 on Windows 7 - Here's how
Gothic 2 has been on the market since 2002 and is therefore not optimized for Windows 7. For this reason, you cannot play the game without special settings. We'll show you exactly how to do it.
Step 1: Start Gothic 2 in Windows 7 in compatibility mode
- First find the start file of Gothic 2. This is called "Play Gothic II" and is located in the program folder of the game.
- Click on the file with the right mouse button and select the "Properties".
- At the top, switch to the "Compatibility" tab and activate the option "Run program in compatibility mode for".
- Then select the entry "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" and activate the option "Open program as administrator" below.
- Close the window with the "OK" button and start Gothic 2. With a little luck, the game is already running.
Step 2: Workaround - install Gothic 2 under Windows 7

- Then download the Gothic 2 workaround from "WorldOfGothic.de".
- Open the file and follow the further instructions within the installation.
- If the path for the installation is not specified, select the following: "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ JoWooD \ Gothic II \".
- Once you have completed the installation, Gothic 2 can be started easily under Windows 7.
