With Gimp you can paint graffiti without really damaging house walls. We will show you how to create the effect using a virtual spray can in the tutorial and a picture gallery.
Gimp: Graffiti completely legal and free of charge
You don't need spray cans for a graffiti: With Gimp you can create graffiti conveniently and free of charge from home. We have summarized the individual steps in our picture gallery.
- In Gimp, open the picture you want to add graffiti to. If you want to convert an image as graffiti instead of a font, insert it as a new layer. Otherwise, first write the word / sentence.
- Then use the rotate tool to rotate the graffiti a little.
- First of all, the picture needs a white frame. To do this, right-click on the graffiti layer and select "Selection from alpha channel".
- Create a new layer with a transparent background. Slide the new layer under the graffiti layer. Then go to "Selection"> "Enlarge" and add 15 px. You fill the selection with "Edit"> "Fill with foreground color" (white). Switch to the Graffiti layer, right click on the layer and choose "Merge Down". Reduce the opacity until you can see the background structure.
- You create a drop shadow with "Filter"> "Light and shadow"> "Drop shadow". Play around with the values here until you get a shadow of the desired size. The opacity should be around 70%.
- With the "Filter"> "Distort"> "Jagged" you bring the typical jaggedness into the graffiti. Activate "Sawtooth" here. You play with the other settings until you are satisfied with the preview result.
- Then add a cartoon effect with "Filter"> "Artistic"> "Cartoon". Here you can easily set slightly higher values.
- Finally correct the color curve: Go to "Colors"> "Curves" and change the curve according to the picture on the right. The graffiti is done.
- We will show you all the steps again in detail in our picture gallery.
