Graphics card: what temperature is normal?
If your graphics card gets too hot or fails frequently, you should check the normal temperature. We will show you how this works and which values you can use as a guide.
What is the optimal temperature for graphics cards?
- Many of the current graphics cards from Nvidia can withstand a maximum temperature of 91 to 98 degrees Celsius. Depending on the model and year of manufacture, this value fluctuates by several degrees.
- Therefore, the temperatures for graphics cards cannot be generalized. Both the maximum temperature and the usual temperature differ from graphics card to graphics card.
What graphics card temperature is normal?
- The usual temperature of a graphics card is around 30 to 50 degrees. These temperatures are usually reached when the PC is not stressed graphically. However, there may be differences here from model to model. With poor cooling, 60 degrees when idling can still be normal.
- The temperature of the graphics card can be measured using the free software GPU-Z. Note that the graphics card temperature may be influenced by the sun or heating heat.
- As long as the graphics card does not warm up to 60 degrees when idling, everything is in the green. The maximum temperature should be around 80 degrees when the load is high, as from this point onwards, many graphics cards are automatically throttled and therefore perform less. But until you switch off completely or even take damage, you would usually have to reach well over 100 degrees.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to check your graphics card for errors.
