Grub bootloader: change boot order - how it works

In this practical tip, we explain how to change the default selection of your Grub boot loader. To do this, you must configure the configuration file of the boot loader. This is how you speed up startup if you have installed Linux on your PC, for example for test purposes, but use Windows by default.
Change the default boot loader selection in the grub configuration file
- Open the terminal and execute the command "sudo gedit / etc / default / grub" (without quotation marks). Then enter your password.
- The configuration file now opens. Change the number at the entry GRUB_DEFAULT. Here you enter, for example, 0 if the standard selection in your Grub boot loader should be the first entry. For example, in the 5th entry, enter 4 instead.
- Save the change, close the file, and return to the terminal.
- Now enter the command "sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg" (without quotation marks) and press the Enter key.
- Then run the "sudo update-grub" command in the terminal.
