This guide shows you how to quickly create a grunge stamp with Gimp.
Gimp: Create grunge stamp
If you don't have a stamp at hand, you can build a grunge stamp with gimp in no time at all.
- Create a new image and insert the stamp text with the text tool. Choose a bold red as the text color.
- Next, the stamp is given its frame in the same color. To do this, create a new layer with a transparent background and use the selection tool to draw a frame around the text. Via the menu "Selection -> Border" you give the frame a thickness of 5 px. The frame then gets its color with "Edit -> Fill with foreground color". You can then deselect it.
- Right-click on the layer and click "Merge down" in the context menu. Use the "Tools -> Transformations -> Rotate" menu to turn the stamp a little to the left.
- The grunge effect is still missing. So navigate to "Layer -> Mask -> Add Layer Mask" and choose "White (full opacity)". Set the foreground color to black and activate the brush tool with the confetti brush. Use it to paint over the stamp as you wish.
- You get the necessary noise for the grunge effect with the ink tool. The opacity should be 75 percent. Choose the size 6 and the diamond as the type. Slightly narrow the diamond shape by dragging the pointer down on the diamond symbol. Now paint any strokes over text and frames. For more variety, you can also increase the opacity to 85 percent in between.
- Finally, duplicate the layer and select the "Destructive" mode for the duplicated layer.
