GTA 5 for PC crashes - it could be that
In this article, we will help you further if GTA 5 crashes on PC and exits unexpectedly. There can be several reasons for this.
GTA 5 crash due to AMD Catalyst
More and more PC players report crashes in their GTA 5 games - mainly on laptops. The error message "GTA 5 has ended unexpectedly" appears on the operating system with AMD Catalyst 15.4 driver and on laptops with switchable AMD graphics card. AMD has released a workaround for the problem:
- As an affected player, you should use GTA 5 in DirectX 11 mode. To do this, activate in the InGame settings in the in-game settings of GTA 5 under "Graphics" activate the item "DirectX Version".
- You should also deactivate MSAA anti-aliasing. You can also make this change under "Settings" and "Graphics" - here you have to navigate to the sub-item "MSAA" and set it to "off".
- AMD and Rockstar Games are already working on a patch that will be available soon.
Problems with social club on PC
If GTA 5 quits unexpectedly, loads very slowly, and displays error messages such as "Social Club failed to initialize, " or "Social Club failed to load due to an incomplete installation", you can do the following:
- This can be remedied by reinstalling the Rockstar Social Club Launcher.
- Before you carry out the new installation, you should make sure that all processes executed by GTA 5 have ended: As a precaution, start the Task Manager and end the processes GTA5.exe, PlayGTAV.exe and GTAVLauncher.exe.
- Next, navigate to Control Panel and uninstall Social Launcher.
- Finally, you just have to download and start the Social Club Launcher again.
GTA 5 on PC not without media player
Either you will be shown at installation that GTA 5 needs the famous Windows Media Player or you will quickly notice if the game stops working or crashes.
- If you have not installed the Windows Media Player, you should download it.
- Then you have to search for the media player under "Control Panel", "Programs" and "Programs & Features" and activate it there.
- Many iTunes or Winamp fans may feel disturbed, but a patch that enables playing without Windows Media Player is already on the way.
