When starting GTA IV on the PC, the error message "Fatal error WS10" may appear. There are various possible triggers for the error. We show you how to eliminate the most common causes.
- In the most common cases, the WS10 error can be fixed by reinstalling Games For Windows Live outside of GTA IV.
- First uninstall Games For Windows Live and then download the latest installation file directly from Microsoft.
- If this does not fix the error, there are many other possible sources of error.
- Uninstall GTA IV and try a new installation in connection with the latest update directly from Rockstar Games.
- Alternatively, remove all entries for Games for Windows Live from your PC. Then open the directory C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Rockstar Games \ GTAIV.
- Search for the Xlive.dll file and remove the file from the directory. Alternatively, you can simply rename the file.
- Now start the game. There should be a hint that an update for Games for Windows Live is available. Download and then install it.
- The last possible source of error can be related to the Net Framework. For GTA IV you need Net Framework 3.5.1 or higher.
- In many cases, installing Net Framework 4.0 can help and fix errors. You should download the latest version directly from Microsoft.
