Guild Wars 2 Guide: All classes at a glance
In the online role-playing game Guild Wars 2, you can choose from eight different classes. There is an overview in this game guide: Whether necromancer, thief or mesmer - in our article you will learn the special features of each class.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Engineer
The engineer is very familiar with heavy equipment. Thanks to his diverse equipment options, he is prepared for everything on the battlefield.
- Engineers are characterized by various equipment kits: you can equip your character not only with a weapon kit for the battlefield, but also with a backpack kit for more technically demanding constructions.
- The engineer can use a flamethrower to mix up the fight and build sophisticated explosive devices with the bomb kit for the backpack.
- Engineers can also set up turrets: these unmanned firearms automatically fire at the enemy, giving you a strategic advantage.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Warriors
Warriors force their way through the battlefield with brute force: They have the largest weapon selection of all classes and feel comfortable in open combat.
- Warriors can get into a frenzy of blood: with every hit their adrenaline rises, which they can discharge in a devastating attack. The more adrenaline built up, the more brutal the attack gets - so surrounding enemies should be careful.
- In addition, through "stances" warriors can temporarily increase their combat skills and carry or place banners in battle that also give their allies an energy boost.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Guardians
The Guardians are the selfless cavaliers in Guild Wars 2: your top priority is to protect other players and to fight for glory and honor. For this they are rewarded with useful special skills.
- A guard uses three virtues in battle: "Justice" burns his opponents, "Bravery" protects him from being hit, and "Determination" restores his life energy. The Guardian can also forego virtue benefits to protect allies in battle - truly chivalrous!
- In addition, guards can summon ghost weapons that fight independently or protect their allies with shouts and attack enemies.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Ranger
Rangers are quiet hunters who are at home in wild nature. They use their excellent knowledge of flora and fauna to always be one step ahead of enemies.
- As a ranger, you can tame wild animals and make them companions. These accompany you and support you in the fight. From dogs to birds to sharks, every animal has a special ability that can help you in many cases.
- Since rangers know their surroundings better than anyone else, it is also easy for them to set traps for their opponents and thus weaken them. They can also summon forest spirits to assist them in battle.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Thief
The thief moves on quiet soles and assassinates his targets without attracting attention. He swiftly evades enemy attacks and starts to counterattack at lightning speed.
- Thieves are masters of hide and seek - they demonstrate this with their camouflage ability. They invisibly sneak up on enemies to give them a fatal blow. In order to escape the subsequent turmoil, they can also teleport away from the scene.
- Thieves can steal from opponents and use their own weapons against them. On top of that, weapon combinations have unimagined additional effects: If a thief chooses a dagger as a second weapon for a pistol, for example, he can teleport himself to his opponent.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Necromancer
Necromancers don't have much in common with the living world - rather, they feel comfortable in the world of the spirits and the undead. With their eerie abilities, they scare opponents into terror.
- Whenever a person dies nearby, the necromancer feeds on the dwindling life force. If he has collected enough, he can use the "Death Veil" ability to step out of his body as a ghost and attack his enemies with black magic.
- In addition, necromancers can call for undead help and weaken enemies or strengthen nearby allies with local "well" spells.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Elementalist
Air, fire, earth and water - these are the skills of an elementalist. In order to gain the upper hand on the battlefield, he makes use of the forces of nature.
- An Elementalist can specialize in one of the four elements: Fire Mages burn their enemies, Water Mages use floods and ice attacks, Air Mages use storms and lightning, and Earth Mages take advantage of the brute force of rocks and stones.
- Elementalists do not have any weapons worth mentioning next to their staffs - but they can be summoned at any time. For example, approaching enemies must prepare for a surprising blow with the fire ax.
Guild Wars 2 Classes: Mesmer
Mesmers are masters of deception, who confuse their enemies with powerful illusions and drive them mad.

With the "Smash" ability, Mesmer then dissolve the projections, for example to inflict considerable damage on the opponent.
- Mesmer also resort to the power of their own minds: they can charge mantras, which can then be used in combat and, for example, increase toughness or combat damage. In addition, the environment can be visually manipulated with "glamor" spells.
